Counselling and EMDR in Cambuslang, Glasgow

Michele Brannan

Hello, I’m Michele

I’m a qualified and accredited psychotherapeutic counsellor at Therapy for the Mind. Taking the first step towards counselling can be the most difficult and overwhelming part, so I invite you to look over this website, see what I can offer, and find out more about me and how I work.

You are more capable than you know, more brilliant than you comprehend, and more powerful than you can ever begin to understand.

I want to build a therapeutic relationship that encourages resilience and promotes growth.

I have worked as a counsellor in an addiction service and in private practice, and I’m experienced in working with a wide range of issues, including drug and alcohol addictions, depression, trauma, bereavement, and relationship and attachment issues. I adapt my therapy to suit each person I work with.

My approach is to give you a safe, non-judgemental place where you feel listened to and supported to deal with the challenges you face. That space helps you understand where you are in your life and make the changes you feel are needed to move forward.

Therapies available

I see counselling as going beyond and beneath the story, so you can safely move through healing, self-discovery and personal growth. That means a safe space where you can share your experiences, thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement.

My aim is to talk through the challenges you’re facing and support you to focus on the changes you want to make in your life.

How I work

As a person-centred and integrative counsellor, I can draw on a variety of methods and models. One size doesn’t fit all, and I treat every client with respect. The strategies I use are discussed with you first, so you stay at the centre of the process, and I adapt my approach to your needs.

My goal

To offer you the strategies and tools you need to heal and make changes in your life. In our sessions I can help you gain awareness and a deeper understanding of the issues you face, along with new insight and perspective. I offer education, empathy and understanding that you can apply to make positive change.

I don’t tell clients what to do. I create opportunities for awareness and self-discovery in a safe space, free from judgement, where you can explore your emotions, feelings and inner world. Treatment plans are adapted to your needs and the outcomes we agree together.

The counsellor’s role

To focus on your needs and the changes you want, and to provide a safe, confidential service that respects your sovereignty and individuality. I listen actively, with empathy and congruence. I won’t judge your life choices or direct how you live, and I won’t share anything we discuss.

Frequently asked questions

What happens in the first session?

The first session is a discovery session. It gives us a chance to get to know each other and make sure I’m the right fit for you. I’ll listen to your reasons for coming to counselling, we’ll identify some goals, and I’ll learn about your situation. You can ask questions and find out how I can work with you. If my service isn’t the right fit, I can refer you to another service that meets your needs.

How many sessions will I need, and how long are they?

A session usually lasts 50 to 60 minutes. Sessions can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly, depending on your circumstances and what works best for you.

It isn’t always possible to say exactly how many sessions you’ll need. It varies from person to person and depends on the issues we’re working on. I can offer a rough guide, and we can set specific goals and outcomes together, with a realistic and flexible timeframe.

How do I pay?

Cash and online bank transfer are both accepted. Payment is due at the time of the appointment, or earlier if you pay by bank transfer, and you’ll receive an invoice.

Client reviews

I found it an enlightening and soothing process that uncovered and addressed areas of my mind which I did not understand properly nor the negative impact it had been having on my life.

I felt we were a team making the discoveries and then addressing them as they arose. Michele was also kind, thoughtful, encouraging and supportive. Even when I was at my lowest, I always came away feeling that there was hope and it would be a positive outcome. It is a journey I am pleased to have gone on, and know need to keep the processes and ideas we have created in place to continue to grow and change old negative behaviours.

This experience was life changing.

It has been so helpful in so many ways including learning more about myself, why I feel the way I do/did, and taught me ways of dealing with anxieties and understanding emotions.

I worked with Michele for 9 months. She helped me to navigate a very challenging time of my life and understand how past trauma was showing up for me.

Michele is easy to open up to and we built a very trusting therapist and client relationship.

It was during the last couple months of sessions that the benefit of all the things we had been working on became clear. Definitely trust the process with Michele and you will reap the benefits.

Michele made me feel comfortable throughout my sessions.

I was well informed and the service has been excellent. Michele has helped me with this difficult moment in my life and I feel I am in a much better place. I cannot thank Michele enough for everything.

My therapist could not have been more understanding and supportive throughout our sessions, not at any point did I feel like I wasn’t in incredibly capable hands.

I would recommend this service to anyone and has helped me immensely. I’ve even noticed a difference in my everyday life. I feel like my therapist went above and beyond to accommodate me and make me feel safe and accepted. Could not be happier with the service I received.

I couldn’t recommend Michele more, she’s the best therapist I’ve ever had by miles.

She is kind, calm, patient, clearly knows her subject matter to an incredible depth and was able to explain everything so well. I’m in awe of her ability to be empathetic, relatable and highly professional throughout – I never once felt judged by her, which was essential to me getting so much out of this experience. Thank you so much Michele!

I felt from the time I made the initial phone call everything seemed to go like clockwork.

My request was heard with regards to the therapist I wished to see and I can truly say that in all the years I have experienced counselling by far Michele has helped me the most and found the root cause. Cannot rate her highly enough.
